Homemade Burger Recipe


Homemade Burger Recipe makes the juiciest and most delicious burger using ground beef, a blend of spices and a secret ingredient, shredded zucchini.


Spring is here and the weather is finally starting to warm up, so it’s time to start thinking about grilling! Although we grill year round here in Colorado, we break out the grill in full force once springtime hits. There is nothing better than preparing a full meal on the grill and it makes clean up a breeze too! These burgers are the best and made perfectly juicy with the key ingredient, zucchini! It might sound strange, but I promise you it’s delicious and it blends so well into the ground beef you’ll hardly even notice it’s there.

How To Make Burger Patties From Ground Beef

  • These burgers come together so quickly.
  • To start, you’ll want to shred your zucchini (I use a cheese grater). While you don’t have to cut the skin (outside) of the zucchini off before shredding, if you have picky eaters, I recommend it. The first couple of times I made these burgers I left the skin on and while the taste was fine, my kids were convinced that I was feeding them seaweed and it caused unnecessary meal-time drama. LOL. Once I started skinning the zucchini before shredding, they stopped making comments about the seaweed.
  • Once you shred your zucchini, you can combine the ground beef, zucchini and seasonings in a large mixing bowl.

  • Using your (clean) hands, blend mixture together, combining well.
  • Once zucchini and seasonings are evenly blended throughout the meat mixture, form the mixture into 4 hamburger patties.

Homemade Burgers

  • Grill burgers over medium heat until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
  • For us, we place the burgers on the grill for 3-4 minutes and then flip them and let them continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes and then flip again. We do this until they are done (usually taking a total of 12-16 minutes).
  • Once burgers are done, remove from grill.

  • Serve burgers with all your favorite toppings and if you are looking for the best grain and gluten free buns, I recommend these, they are our favorites!


I recommend completing your dinner with Sweet Potato Casserole and the Best Green Beans in all the land, but if you’re looking for quick & easy, throwing a veggie on the grill with the burgers and adding a side of watermelon is our go to!

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 zucchini shredded
  • 1 tsp onion salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, shredded zucchini, onion salt, garlic powder and pepper. 

    Form mixture into 4 patties. 

    Cook on grill over medium heat, flipping every 3-4 minutes, until burgers reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees, about 12-16 minutes total. 

    Serve with all your favorite toppings.
